Something I never really paid attention to growing up and in my adult years, is the importance of symbolism. One of the profound things that really opened my eyes and changed me spiritually, was learning how symbolism is everywhere. It is a wonderful thing to learn the mysteries of God by studying, searching, viewing symbolism in all of God's creations.
In everything around us, in nature, in the galaxy, solar system, in churches, religions, in the continents, in peoples, in nations, in movies, books, stories, in scripture, and inside each of us, is symbolism. And I believe and am starting to learn that all things lead to God, thru His Son, Jesus the Christ.
Jesus taught using parables. And the reason he used parables was so that everyone who heard him, would, in their own time and by their own capability, understand the message they needed and could handle, spiritually. If a person is not ready for new or higher understanding, then it will not be given to that person. So, parables are used, so that a person who has "eyes to see" and "ears to hear", who is spiritually prepared and open to the mysteries of God, will understand the higher meanings of parables.
God teaches all men in the same manner. From the very beginning, even the book of Genesis, the very first verse, God says that He created the heavens and earth. So, from the very onset, symbolism is used. God told us from that first verse, that there is a physical realm and a spiritual realm. And all things have a physical, worldy, external meaning, and also a spiritual, unseen, internal meaning.
All things physical teach us about it's counterpart in the spiritual sense or spiritual world. And God continues throughout scripture, and in nature, to tell HisStory...or history, the same repetitive story over and over again.
Symbolism is used in a large way, like the Old and New testament, as well as in smaller ways, like the stories within those 2 books.
